How to Change Device Name & Address on Google Home

Follow simple steps to Change Device Name & Address on your Google Home, Google Home Mini, Google Home Max and Google Home Hub. You can use this method on Android tablet & iPhone/iPad.

Before it, your mobile device need to connecting to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device. Let’s follow steps below to check that Google Home is on same Wi-Fi network as mobile phone or tablet.

How to Check Google Home is on same Wi-Fi network

Step 1. Check the Wi-Fi network of mobile device or tablet

Android

  1. Locate and tap Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. The Wi-Fi network labeled “Connected” is the network you’re connected to. This must match the network that Google Home is connected to.
  3. To change the network,
    1. Tap a new network > enter password > Connect.
    2. If you’ve entered the password for that network before, tap Connect.

iPhone/iPad

  1. On the Home screen, tap Settings and then Wi-Fi. The network with the check mark next to it is the network you’re connected to.┬áThis must match the network that Google Home is connected to.
  2. To change the network,
    1. Tap a new network > enter password > Join.
    2. If you’ve entered the password for that network before, it will automatically connect. You’ll see a check mark next to the new network.

Step 2. Check the Wi-Fi network of Google Home

Android

  1. Open Google Home app.
  2. Within Home, tap the device you want to find the Wi-Fi network for.
  3. In the top right corner of the device card, tap Settings.
  4. Under “Device Info,” look for Wi-Fi.

iPhone/iPad

  1. Open Google Home app.
  2. Within Home, tap the device you want to find the Wi-Fi network for.
  3. In the top right corner of the device card, tap Settings.
  4. Under “Device Info,” look for Wi-Fi.

Note: If your Android tablet/iPhone/iPad Wi-Fi network doesn’t match Google Home’s Wi-Fi network, you need to change the Wi-Fi network of Google Home.

How to Change Device Name

  1. Please make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap the Google Home device you want to edit.
  4. Tap Settings > Name > enter a new name > Save.

How to Change Device Address

The Device Address is the physical location of your Google Home device. So this may not be the same address as your work and home locations. Then when asking for local places, weather, and time information, this device address is used as the default location unless you specify another place/weather/time (Ex. “What’s the weather in <New York>”).

Android

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the device from the home tab.
  3. Tap Settings in the upper right hand corner.
  4. Tap Device Address.
  5. Enter the address > Set address.

iPhone/iPad

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Home app.
  2. In the bottom right corner, tap Account.
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name.
  4. Tap the device > Settings > Assistant.
  5. Under the Assistant devices section, tap the device you want.
  6. Tap Device Address.
  7. Enter the address > Set address.

Note: You can edit or delete this address at any time.
